New Initiative set to launch in Carmarthenshire: Byw Sir Gar / Living Carmarthenshire PDF Print E-mail

Living Carmarthenshire logoSustainability – and particularly the climate change agenda – is one of the priorities adopted by Carmarthenshire County Council.

A project is being piloted where work is being carried out with a specific area within Carmarthenshire to deliver more focused support on sustainable living, climate change and carbon reduction.

The ‘Byw Sir Gar / Living Carmarthenshire’ project is being piloted in Ferryside initially but will be rolled-out to other communities from 2010, and is being developed in conjunction with the RDP funded Zero carbon communities project.

The project was be launched in November 2009 followed by a month-long campaign consisting of activities and events to promote the following themes:

  • save resources,
  • save energy
  • travel wisely
  • shop locally and ethically,
  • care for your area and biodiversity.

Already a walk has been undertaken, which looked at the species and habitats of the coastal area, their importance on an international level and how they help our economy and act as a natural flood defence scheme. Further ways to work with the local community are being discussed including a biodiversity audit and tree planting.

The project is being led by the council, in partnership with the Environment Agency, CCW, CAVS, BTCV, Health Challenge Carmarthenshire and others.
