Booklet on amphibians and reptiles in South Wales PDF Print E-mail

Sand Lizard © Welsh Wildlife PhotographyCarmarthenshire County Council in partnership with Neath Port Talbot Council and the South and West Wales Amphibian and Reptile Group has produced a comprehensive booklet on these interesting groups of animals.

Unfortunately populations of amphibians (frogs, toads and newts) and reptiles (snakes and lizards) are declining – habitat loss and fragmentation (from development and loss of ‘rough areas’ of habitat), unsympathetic management – and it is important that we all try and help these species out where we can.

This booklet will help people find out more about amphibians and reptiles that live in the county – there are comprehensive sections on species identification – and also provides information on legislation, pond creation and management of sites specifically for them.

Copies have been sent to all the schools and in-house maintenance staff within the council. If you would like a copy then please contact Isabel Macho on This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
