The BSBI produces national Atlases and county Floras of the distribution of plants. It publishes a scientific journal, Watsonia, and holds conferences on botany. Members are kept informed by a newsletter three times a year and are invited to make use of our system of county recorders and national referees who can help with the identification of plants. Field meetings are held throughout Britain and Ireland, and sometimes abroad. An education programme supported by the society aims brings high quality botanical training within the reach of all, from A Level students to professional development and postgraduate courses. The BSBI is for all botanists living or working in Britain & Ireland, or for anyone interested in the botany of these islands. The society is unique for its wide membership of professionals and amateurs alike, all of whom can contribute fully in its activities. For more details visit the society's website at www.BSBI.org.uk Richard Pryce ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ) is the BSBI County Recorder for Carmarthenshire and maintains the county botanical database. He is keen to hear from anyone who might wish to pass on plant records of interest or who might know of any land or sites which might be worthy of surveying to record their botanical interest. Sites might include, not only, unimproved grassland, old woodland, wetland, coastal areas, etc, but also unattended land in the urban environment, old spoil tips and quarries, flowery road–sides……..the list is endless. Richard published a County Rare Plant Register in 1999 and, with Dr George Hutchinson at the National Museum of Wales, is currently working towards the publication of a full Flora of Carmarthenshire. |
